Wiggle Worms - We appreciate our community helpers!

This week is a week in American history where I like to emphasize my appreciation for our community helpers, especially firefighters and police officers!

Thank you!

Mr. Bear, our weekly Wiggle Worms mascot, showed his appreciation too.

Letter of the Day:  Ff  for fire truck

We then used our bodies to make the letter "F"

Music Activity:

We sang "Drive the Fire Truck" (listen to sample here) with scarves.

Hurry!  Hurry! Drive the fire truck X3
Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!
Hurry! Hurry! Put the ladder up X3
Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!
Hurry! Hurry! Put the fire out X3
Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!
Hurry! Hurry! Drive the fire truck X3
Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!
Whew!

Wiggle Worms - Elephants

Reminder:  There is NO Wiggle Worms next Monday which will make Tuesday even busier than usual.  Please register for Tuesday to ensure your child's spot: July 2013 schedule of events

Animal Song with Puppets:  "Pig on her Head"

Letter of the Day: Ee for elephant

Book: I Dream of An Elephant by Ami Rubinger. We dream up elephants of all different colors in this rhyming book.

I changed the words on two pages though. Instead of the brown elephant being so big and lazy that he had to sit down, he was simply tired.  The pink elephant was a great dancer, not a clumsy one, in my version.

The kids were awesome listeners both days!  To help hold their attention, I made flannel elephants to place up on the board as I read about them in the book.

Some close-ups

Music / Movement:  After reading about colorful elephants, we all used scarves to become elephants ourselves to dance to "Elephant's Have Wrinkles".

Rhyme (SCLibrary):  Here Comes the Elephant

Here comes the elephant
He moves so slow
He swings his trunk to and fro
He is so big he can hardly jump
He sits down with a great big THUMP

Flannel:  We ended with the same flannel as last wee, "See You Later, Alligator"

Wiggle Worms April 9, 2012

Since I couldn't do all my favorite chick/egg stuff in one week, it carried over into this week's Wiggle Worms.

Today we:

Animal Puppet Song:  "If Animals Could Dance" (sorry not in our collection).
If animals could dance they'd look so funny
A cat would dance and look like this
And sound like this
(cow, dog, duck, elephant)

Letter of the Day:  Ll for lion

Book: Charlie Chick by Nick Denchfield

Music:

We danced with a big lion puppet  and scarves to Laurie Berkner's The Lion Sleeps Tonight.

We tried out "The Chicken Dance" again this week with much greater success!!

Flannel:  Six Little Chicks
This is a flannel I came up with a few months ago and have used it a couple of different ways.  Today we looked for Charlie Chick (a yellow chick).

Six little eggs getting ready to hatch (6 fingers)
Peck, peck, peck..... (peck hand)
Crack!! (Clap while removing the top part of the egg)

Finger Play:  Two Little Blackbirds
Katie Crow (a blackbird) squawked until we did her favorite rhyme.  Here she is hanging out with one of our lovely staff members.
