Love Monster and the Perfect Present (Valentine's Day)

Love Monster and the Perfect Present by Rachel Bright
(Valentine's Day)

I both want to share this flannel and offer additional sets for sale.  I'm a little late in the game making these sets, but they are perfect for valentine's Day and I can ship immediately.  Info below after blog post. 💓🎁💗

Summary:  (From B&N)  Everyone in Cutesville is excited for the most special day of the year: Present Day! Love Monster goes on a hunt for the perfect gift for his special someone, but as it turns out, finding the perfect gift is not easy. And the only thing worse than a not-perfect present is no present at all. But Love Monster soon comes up with the idea for the best gift ever―one that comes straight from his furry heart.

If you already have the red Love Monster I made last  year for Love Monster and the Last Chocolate and you only need the orange Love Monster and "perfect present", I can just send those.

Orange Love Monster is gifted the perfect present from Red Love Monster

Opening the present

The "wrapping paper" is velcroed on so you can "unwrap" the present

Love Monster and the Last Chocolate (Valentine's Day)

Love Monster and the Last Chocolate by Rachel Bright

I both want to share my flannel and sell additional sets.  This book / flannel is perfect for Valentine's Day! Info below after blog post. 💗

Summary: (From B&N) When Love Monster comes home from vacation, he discovers a box of chocolates on his doorstep. He knows he should share it with his friends, but what if there's none left for him after everyone has a piece? What if they take his favorite-the double chocolate strawberry swirl? And even worse-what if the only piece left is the coffee-flavored one? Ick! In the end, Love Monster learns that sharing with friends is the sweetest treat of all.

Flannel colors are quite bright.... I can't tell if maybe they just look dull on this computer...? ☹

He comes with a felt “box” of chocolates and his favorite chocolate inside (removable with Velcro).

This love monster was made with lots of love just in time for Valentine’s Day! He accompanies (and is being sold with) the much-adored book Love Monster and the Last Chocolate by Rachel Bright.

Pete the Cat and the Missing Cupcakes

Pete the Cat and the Missing Cupcakes by James Dean

A Pete the Cat book I can get on board with again.  There are no blue shoes or groovy sunglasses, but I found this book on a Valentine's display at Barnes & Noble and thought it was the perfect book to mix up my Valentine's theme.

I used this set in my Valentine's theme this past February and the kids loved it!  I shared this book with my son's Kinder class and they were especially excited when Pete the Cat asked me to bring these cupcake erasers to them (randomly found them in the party isle at Walmart).

Baby Time Valentine's! 2-13-13

I figured a lot of babies would be at Valentine's Day parties, but it turns out a lot of them partied it up in Baby Time!  So cute!

34 babies
37 adults

I did a lot of the same activities with the Wiggle Worms (toddlers) yesterday, so here's a quick summary of today:

Rhymes / Finger Plays / Bounces

Humpty Dumpty:
Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall
Humpty Dumpty fell in a puddle
Humpty Dumpty needs a big cuddle

Skidamarink:
Skidamarink a dinky dink
Skidamarinky doo
I love you
I love you in the morning (arms like a sun over your head)
and in the afternoon (lower arms)
I love you in the evening (lower arms)
and underneath the moon (sleep on hands)
Skidamarink a dinky dink
Skidamarinky doo
I love you!

Two Little Lovebirds

Two little lovebirds sitting on a hill
One named Jack
and one named Jill
Fly away, Jack
Fly away, Jill
Come back, Jack
Come back, Jill

Additional verses...

Snow / Fast / Slow

Cloud / Quiet / Loud

Book: All Kinds of Kisses by Nancy Tafuri.

Bouncing Song:  We danced to "Will You Be My Valentine?" - a song filled with lots of dancing, hugging, spinning, and hand holding.  So sweet to see the littlest babies in their caregivers' laps and the older babies bustin' a move!

Look at these cute twins!  I got to dance with this handsome fella for the song:

Prop Rhyme:  Under the heart there is.... ultimately, a Love Bug!

Music activity:  Instead of shakers, the babies flew plush bug rattles with scarves tied on as I played the song "Love Bug"

Wiggle Worms: Valentine! 2-12-13

It's been a while...  I have been helping out with storytimes at another branch which has really slowed down my blogging but today my kiddos were so much fun that I had to post!

Mr. Bear
Mr. Bear has been wearing his "Bee Mine" outfit in preparation for Valentine's Day

Animal Puppet Song: "Old MacDonald" from the Wiggleworms album.  Gotta love that tickle bug at the end.

Letter of the Day: Ll for ladybug (or love bug or love bird)

Rhymes

"Two Little Love Birds"

Two little love birds sitting on a  hill
One named Jack
and one named Jill
Fly away, Jack
Fly away, Jill
Come back, Jack
Come back, Jill

(Other verses)
Cloud / Quiet / Loud

Snow / Fast / Slow
Finger puppets are easy to make at home

Kisses:

All Kinds of Kisses by Nancy Tafuri. There are so many kinds of (noisy) kisses, but the best kiss is from someone who loves you!  This is one of my top 5 books for babies and toddlers.

After all those animal kisses, we blew some kisses to this family on the flannel board.  As the kids blew a kiss, Miss Michelle or I slapped a big kiss on the family member. http://storytimesecrets.blogspot.com/2012/01/flannel-friday-valentines-day.html

But it got really fun when we "blew" kisses too all the kids (stickers below)!!

Love Bugs:

Under the heart:  Under the blue heart is a purple heart. Under the purple heart is a green heart. Under the green heart is a pink heart.  Under the pink heart is a red heart.  Under the red heart is a .... Love Bug!

Just in time!.... We flew around the room with love bugs (plush rattles with scarves tied to them) while the song "Love Bug" played:

Happy Valentine's Day, little love bugs!

Flannel Friday's Mushy-Gushy Round-Up

Yeah, I'm a little late being that it's Saturday and all.....

This "flannel" is straight from http://storytimesecrets.blogspot.com/2012/01/flannel-friday-valentines-day.html

I'm going to do it a little differently though:

I have lots of kisses to give away
Who should I kiss this Valentine's Day?

After we blow kisses to mommy, daddy, baby, and doggie we will say the rhyme again and then I'll hold up a "kiss" sticker and I'll say, "I'll kiss Avery!" (or whichever child is sitting close enough) and put a sticker on her.  I will then "kiss" all the kids with stickers!

You can buy a roll of 100 stickers for $1.99 from http://www.orientaltrading.com/lips-roll-stickers-a2-32_1740-12-1.fltr?Ntt=kiss+stickers or look for packs of kiss stickers at most crafting stores, Target, or Wal-Mart this time of year.

Thanks for the great flannel ideas, storytimesecrets!

Wiggle Worms 2-13 and 2-14 2012

Wiggle Worms is always a little crazy for my liking when we have to hold it in the Newsstand Room, but I still had a blast with all my little Wiggle Worms this week as we threw a little Valentines into the mix.

Animal Song: "Old MacDonald"

Letter of the day: Ll for ladybug (or lovebug)

Book:  My new favorite book by one of my favorite authors: All Kinds of Kisses by Nancy Tafuri

Flannel:  Under blue heart there is a purpe heart.  Under the purple heart there is a green heart. Under the green hear there is a pink heart.  Under the pink heart is a red heart.  Under the red heart is a....LOVEBUG!

Movement:  After that flannel, we had to dance with lovebugs to Johnette Downing's "Love Bug"

Fingerplays:

Tommy Thumbs:

Tommy Thumbs are up
and Tommy Thumbs are down
Tommy Thumbs are dancing all around the town
Dance them on your shoulders, dance them on your head, dance them on your knees
and tuck them into bed shhhhhh....

WAKE UP, TOMMY THUMBS! (and do it again)

So many cuties!  So many Valentines!

Pre-K Valentine's Day! 2-2-12

Next week we will have a guest speaker, so we stirred up a little Valentine fun this week.

Books:

Valentine Surprise by Corinne Demas.  A little girl tries to make a perfect heart valentine for her mother, but none turn out quite right.  She decides to tape them all together to make a colorful banner.

Unfortunately, you can't see the glittery felt and puffy paint I used to make these flannel pieces, but they're quite vibrant in person.  Noah and Olivia helped me hold the banner up because it was about 4 feet long.  I made two sets of hearts and glued the second set together for the banner ahead of time.

Idea from http://busycraftingmommy.wordpress.com/2012/01/20/valentines-day-flannel-friday/

My Heart is Like a Zoo by Michael Hall.  Michael Hall, a graphic designer, uses over 300 hearts to construct a menagerie of animals.

Game: "I'm thinking of something red"....We gave clues and the kiddos guessed which red items we were describing.  Some items were a stop sign, apple, fire truck, Clifford, and tomatoes.

Movement:  I played "Shake a Friend's Hand" and everyone partnered up with a mom, dad, sibling, friend, etc.

6 little Valentines were sent to my house,
The first one was from Mouse (pink)

5 little Valentines in my mailbox,
The second one was from Fox (orange)

4 little Valentines full of love,
The third one was from Dove (white)

3 little Valentines just for me,
The fourth one was from Bee (yellow)

2 little Valentine’s mailed with care,
The fifth one was from Bear (sparkley pink)

The last little Valentine, from my friend Jay,
This one said, “Happy Valentine’s Day!” (blue)

Letter of the Day: Hh for hearts
