Storytime Schedule Changes @ the Perry Branch!

Hello Friends!

I know that when I last saw you in July I said something like, "Everything will resume in September!"

I was wrong!  There have been some significant changes to the programming schedule.  It will take some getting used to but until / if the staffing situation changes at Perry, this will be the new schedule.

The most notable change is that I will not being doing specific programs for toddlers (Wiggle Worms) and preschoolers anymore.  Instead I'll be doing programs for "All-Ages" (2-5 year olds).  The All-Ages programs held on Wednesday mornings will require registration.  The days have also changed and I am offering one less storytime session a week.

I am happy to answer any questions on a individual basis in the comments or at tarabudka@gmail.com

PLEASE share these changes with anyone you know who attends storytimes at Perry.

See you soon!

Starting in September:

Tuesdays at 10:30 a.m.: Babytime (0-24 months)
*Wednesdays at 9:30 and 10:30 a.m.: All-Ages Storytime (2-5 years)
Thursdays at 6:00 p.m.:  Evening All-Ages Storytime (all family member welcomed to attend!)

* Registration required

You can visit our online calendar by going to the MCLD home page.  Events -> Perry
Please read the program descriptions for more details.

I hope to see you soon!

  1. We miss you! Went to the story time at our new library and it doesn't compare, right when the boys got "Roly Poly" down pat!

  3. I'd love to know how your evening storytime crowd is. We don't offer an evening storytime at my library, and I am curious how your crowd is. Will you be blogging about this? Thanks and God Bless! ;o)

    1. I love the evening group. Well, most weeks. It can be a tricky group because you know how kids are after a long day at school or daycare and on the verge of bedtime. Not always at their finest!! And the age rage is wide as babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age kids all attend. I don't mind if the toddlers aren't focused the whole time, but if they are running or screaming I will ring my "quiet bells" and remind everyone that if their child is not having a storytime moment, they should step out and rejoin the group when they are ready.

But I do love this group too because most parents have been separated from their kids all day and are excited to do an activity with them. The adults dance, participate, and interact with their kids way more than in my other storytimes.

I just reviewed my stats from my past year- I get between 15 and 40 children (or 25-75 people total) at each session depending on the month. When it starts getting darker earlier/Holiday season, less people come.

Morning programs are very heavily attended here. I work in a fairly affluent community where there are a lot of stay at home parents who don't need to attend evening programs because they do that with the kids during the day.

My biggest piece of advice if you start doing evening programs is to send out an email blast to customers if you can do that. When I first started I was only getting 1 or 2 kids because no one knew about it. The people that rarely come to the library (likely the parents who work full time) won't see the calendars, fliers, posters, etc. in the library.
